The last of the Andrew Sisters has died, Patty Andrews passed at the age of 94 on January 30th, 2013. The Andrews Sisters were a swing band that was popular most during the 1940's. Their greatest hits were "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy", I Will Be With You During Blossom Time" and "Don't Sit Under The Apple Tree." Patty Andrews was the youngest of the group. The first sister to pass was LaVerne in 1967, age 55 then Maxene in 1995, age 78. In the year 1945, when the Second World War had ended, according to The LA Times Reports, Patty Andrews announced to 5,000 soldiers preparing to go to war with the Pacific that the war had ended. No response was made at first but when she announced again and began to cry, the soldiers knew at that moment they were on their way home.
The Andrews Sister had a long and successful career, selling over 75 millions records. They were considered to be the most popular all female group during the 20th century. During the Second World War, they performed for the Allies in the war zone, hospitals, and bases to many military branches. They were a great influence to the public as well and promoting to buy war bonds. They were also known as the "Sweethearts of the Armed Forces Radio Service."
